Shattered Glass

This movie shattered glass is on of the best movies that i have seen so far, i haven’t seen the end but since its a true story i know the end. Stephen Glass as a character is someone that everyone seems to trust, he is very charismatic and persuasive. even though it seemed quite obvious that the story that he had written “Hack heaven” was heavily fabricated, most everyone was still on his side and believed him about it. this wouldn’t happen for everyone that tried to do something like this it was Stephen’s personality that is so likable that let him do something like this. he is someone that you would like to be around someone that you would like to hang out with, he seems very busy with his work. Since he is so hard working you wouldn’t expect that his story would be fabricated. ethically i think what Stephen Glass did was ethically wrong, he didn’t only put his own credibility at risk he put the whole company or magazine’s credibility at risk, and morally you would have to think about something like that before you do it. I was surprised that this was a true story because how ridiculously fabricated his story was, after i read the real story online i thought about it and its amazing that he got away with this.

Anon vs scientology

“Anonomous” has begun there strike against scientology claiming that sceintology brainwashes and steals money. Anonomous is a internet group that post threating messages all over the web and is responsible for alot of the mischeif created on the internet. Anonomous or anon for short is preparing a second strike soon in febuarary, in their strikes they wear masks fake mustashes and beards to hide their identity and stay “anon”. there strikes have been completly nonviolent and no arrests were made in their first strike even though there were police stationed all over the site. there alot of people who dont know what this is about, but anonomous is completly against scientology and these mischief makers arent going away anytime soon. though you cant really complain about them too much since they are just using their rights as american citizens to strike against something in a non-violent way, unless they do something to change that i dont think that there is anything to worry about.

Sugar refinery blast

three were killed and 3 have gone missing in a sugar refinery blast in Ga. the three dead bodies were found in tunnels beneath the building and they think that they may have found three more but aren’t sure, they cant seem to reach them. there has been no confirmed deaths yet, no one has been recognized to be sure. the cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. Natasha hill the machinery operator heard a loud boom and found her self injured, not severely but she did sustain some damage but she was witness to this explosion. The witnesses say it was like looking into hell as about thirteen men ran out of the refinery severly burning and retaining 3rd deree burns. it was said that some of the men had no skin at all, and some just had their skin melting off. The suburban area was shaken by the event. the injured were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The plant is owned by Imperial Sugar and is known in Savannah as the Dixie Crystals plant. as far as anyone nows it was a sugar dust explosion, this is a possibility and always a risk at a sugar plant.

cell phone overages

I my self haven’t been charged with overage fees but both of my brothers have, it usually occurs when you don’t know the limitations or restrictions on your plan or you just plain forget, these aren’t the only fees that cellphone companies get away with. there are unnecessary taxes that are taken for no reason at all. i think that people get mad when they are being deceived by such companies. The things that are written in the fine print of such documents like the plan you select when getting a cell phone can be deceiving. i think before get really mad that they should read the fine print in before getting any type of cell phone, there are also features that let you check how many minutes and things that you have left. text messaging can be a real problem especially if you don’t know how many your plan provides, this can really add up since it counts messages received and sent. This is really it for cell phone bills and overages and unnecessary taxes.

dollar to a homeless

Would you always give a dollar to the homeless? now think about this a dollar could go a long way for a homeless man but wouldn’t you rather keep that dollar for your self if you had the choice. unless you make a lot of money a dollar could still be of some use to you. Some people believe in karma, if you give someone a dollar something good will happen to you in the future, im not sure if its like an interest system where the longer the you wait without something good happening the better it is but i don’t personally believe in karma. i don’t think that somethings will ever come back to you even though you deserve it. it all depends on your state of mind your mood of the whole situation. if you arent making much money maybe getting fired you probably arent going to give away that much money, but if just won the lottery you would probably give money away like its candy. its something to think about because there should always be some justification behind why you are giving somebody some money, even just if there homeless. lets face it some homeless are more talented than others, children get more money than adult beggars and for good obvious reasons. i think that you dont usually give homeless money unless there is something outstanding to you that makes you think that they need that money more than you do.

Super bowl: the pursuit of perfection

The patriots have a chance at making history on Sunday night in becoming only the second team in NFL history to have the perfect season. 0 losses is what i am talking about here. not since the dolphins in the 1970s has this been done this could be the best team ever but they have to first overcome a red hot Eli Manning and giants team to get there. though it seems like this quite the mismatch since the patriots have been outscoring opponents by an average of 18 points and the giants only 1.5 points, this is the largest margin in superbowl history. this mismatch is what rooting for the underdog is all about, what i am going to be doing sunday night. but i think that the patriots are a heavy favorite for very good reason. some speculate if there perfection is going to be tainted by the cheating allegation and fine of half a million dollars early in the season on bill bellich, i personally dont think that is going to be an issue thought there might be a astrick in the record books. as some of you know i dont believe in karma but if the giants win i think that i will believe in karma and it will just be too good. i am going to be watching that game with great intent and i hope you do to.

campaign ads

there have been a lot of campaign ads, this year for the presidential candidates each sending a different message about a different presidential candidate. there are two ads in particular that i am going to be talking about the first one is the the Barak Obahma ad, it was his first presidential ad. it is not slanderous but it really does get you behind him by telling you about everything that he believes in. i think that there are two different types of campaign ads that can be produced and that this is the better of the two. The second ad goes under the slanderous categories and but i saw it on TV so i cant provide a link the ad this was a slanderous ad that pretty much showed all the down falls of all the democratic candidates i wasn’t sure who the ad was for but it shows what the other type of ad can be. these are the two types of ads that generally are found in the presidential campaign scene.

Aussie open Most exciting in years

The Australian open this year has been the most exciting grand slam in a long time, from the new comer Jo Wilfred Tsonga to Roger Federer almost losing in the round of sixteen to a Serbian Yarko Tipsaravic. also Novak Djokavic looking almost unbeatable. This is going to be quite a final, with Tsonga already in the final match up tonight will be the other semi final match up between Roger Federer And Novak Djokavic. this is just between the men in the womens the final is going to be between two of the sports best looking athletes in Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic. This match should be easy on the eyes as and a good warm up for the what everyone is really waiting for on sunday night, the mens final. I am personally very excited to see this semi final match tonight between Federer and Djokovic, this had the potential to be a final in any grand slam event. I cant wait, and if you dont like tennis or have never watched it you should give it try and if dont like it after this tournament then chances are your not going to like it because tennis doesnt get any better than the next couple of days.

Assignment #2 Part 2

Michael Crichton Environmentalism as Religion run amok

Michael Crichton’s work on Environmentalism as a religion uses logos and pathos quite extensively. He begins with logic as his first weapon as he talks about all the different types of effects that are happening to the world today. he mostly talks about though different religious practices and how this really has nothing to do with environmentalism. this is to appeal to the logos and our logic because this is in fact very logical. religion doesn’t have much of a place in environmentalism and he makes his point clear through the logic he uses when describing this. Next he uses emotion to make you angry by telling you that some organizations aren’t doing as much as they could. this causes angry and causes you to get behind his argument even more. even then without much evidence behind his claims you are still behind his argument for some reason. i wonder why this? this is because his logos pathos are used so advantageously.

Assignment #2

P-1
1) 1 Ethos- This establishes your point but keeps you open to the other argument as well. this is the trust in authority, People must trust you.
2 Pathos- This basically emotion being used in your persuasion, it keeps the audience entertained or willing got listen.
3 Logos- The use of logic in an argument, this is obviously very important in an argument because without logic your argument is useless.
2) Some strategies to get trust in authority from the readers is to be well prepared before writing such a research paper that means actually learning a lot about the subject before hand to ensure you know what you are talking about. Also by not coming off too strong about your argument you look less pig headed and open to ideas while still expressing your point. it is advantageous because when the reader trusts your authority they are more willing to listen to what you have to say without as much doubt.
3) There are many ways to appeal to someones emotion, anger sadness and so forth. you start by getting someone fired up about something going on then go into your argument with them already on your side, the same can be done with sadness. Telling people that we aren’t doing all we can to save the forest from fires would get someone angry then you go into your point about increasing fire hazard awareness.
4) There could because if your too strong because if you appeal to sadness to much like have ing the first paragraph about someone who died from something that you are fighting then it may seem like your coming on too strong to make a legitimate point.
5) Logic is the basis for a strong argument, facts and statistics speak very loudly. this can be the back bone of any very good argument. Because an argument that doesn’t use these things looks weak in comparison to one that does have them.
6) No these three can be connected to provide a very strong argument. for example if you were talking about starving kids in Africa(Pathos) then statistics can be connected like how many kids are starving and so forth(Logos). By combing the two together you now possess a very powerful argument.
